The Profile

Sunmeet came to UnivAdmitHelp with an unconventional journey and substantial investment experience. An Economics graduate from the University of Michigan. His interest in finance grew through self-directed investing, eventually building a substantial equity portfolio. As Vice President of Michigan's Economics Investing Committee, he mentored aspiring investors. Professionally, he worked at UNC Management Company, contributing to the management of a multibillion-dollar investment portfolio and underwriting over millions in commitments. His ambition was to eventually establish an impact-oriented family office.

The Challenge

Sunmeet had substantial investing experience but lacked a formal graduate-level finance education. His profile spanned personal investing, institutional asset management, student leadership, entrepreneurship and philanthropy. The challenge was deciding which experiences would best demonstrate his readiness for Yale's specialized program.

His academic journey also needed careful positioning. We needed to connect his technical competence, personal growth and long-term ambitions into a convincing case for why a Master's in Asset Management was the right next step.

The Intervention

We began with extensive storyboarding, examining Sunmeet's experiences through four themes: capital with personal accountability, building scalable platforms, global investment perspectives, and resilience through uncertainty.

Rather than simply showcasing large investment figures, we explored the decisions behind them. His nearly real estate investment became a story about risk, due diligence and accountability. His independently built equity portfolio demonstrated disciplined learning, while his institutional underwriting experience revealed how he evaluated managers, challenged assumptions and made investment recommendations.

We also uncovered a compelling personal narrative. Sunmeet taught himself financial modelling, reapplied, and eventually became Vice President. His journey from arriving in California without a support system to managing institutional investments illustrated determination without relying on generic claims of resilience.

Through successive essay drafts, we refined these experiences into a distinctive personal statement, connecting his investment philosophy with his ambition to establish an impact-oriented family office. We also developed his academic rationale for pursuing advanced training in asset pricing, risk management and portfolio construction.

Finally, our interview preparation focused on helping Sunmeet articulate his investment decisions, explain his career transitions, defend his long-term goals and communicate the personal convictions behind his professional choices.

The Result

Sunmeet secured admission to Yale School of Management's Master's in Asset Management program, Class of 2028.

His application presented more than an accomplished investment professional. It revealed someone who had repeatedly turned uncertainty into disciplined action—from rebuilding his academic journey in a new country to overcoming rejection and making consequential investment decisions.

The final narrative connected his experience managing personal and institutional capital with his belief that investing carries responsibility beyond financial returns. Through focused essays and interview preparation, Sunmeet was able to present his technical expertise, resilience, leadership and future ambitions as parts of one compelling journey.
