Gayatri came to us at the start of Grade 12 at Singapore American School for end-to-end application support. She had strong academics, a rigorous AP curriculum and a SAT superscore. Her interests, however, went well beyond the classroom—neuroscience and healthcare, debate and MUN, writing, community service, Kathak and reading. She had also taken on significant leadership roles, including MUN Captain and Debate Officer. Underneath this breadth was a genuine interest in medicine and neuroscience, particularly the question of how healthcare can become more accessible.
Gayatri did not need more activities; she needed clarity. Her profile was packed with academics, healthcare experiences, leadership, research, service, debate and creative interests. Presented conventionally, it risked becoming an impressive but crowded résumé.
Our challenge was to identify what was distinctly Gayatri. Beyond the future neuroscience student and accomplished debater, we wanted universities to see her curiosity, her love of ideas, her instinct to teach, and the small experiences that had shaped how she thought.
We started with a detailed review of Gayatri’s journey—academics, activities, healthcare exposure, leadership, service and personal interests. This helped us identify patterns rather than simply select her biggest achievements.
We then worked on university and course selection across the UK and US, exploring neuroscience, biology, biochemistry and related disciplines. Her healthcare experiences were examined not simply as credentials, but for what they had taught her about medicine, research and patient care.
For her essays, we deliberately moved away from predictable achievement stories. Quizlet became a lens into how she organizes and learns. Routine filing and stapling during a clinic placement became a reflection on the value of mundane work. Tutoring revealed how teaching strengthened her own understanding. Kathak, crochet, debate and community offered more personal dimensions.
Finally, we shaped her UCAS statement, Common App, UC essays, activities and university supplements so that each added something different. The goal was not to fit everything in—it was to make every story earn its place.
Gayatri’s final applications brought together academic rigour, intellectual curiosity and personality without reducing her to a list of accomplishments. Her interest in neuroscience had a clear academic foundation, while her essays revealed the reader, debater, mentor, dancer and thoughtful observer behind the grades.
Gayatri pursued BSc Neuroscience from University College London (UCL). Her final application showed not simply what she had achieved, but how she thinks, learns and engages with the world.
